Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2025
Introduction
Welcome to WordEase, a free Chrome extension designed to enhance your vocabulary by providing word definitions and pronunciations. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle data when you use our extension and website (word-ease.vercel.app). WordEase collects no personal data and stores nothing on our servers. By using WordEase, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
- No Personal Data: WordEase does not collect or store any personal information, such as your name, email address, or browsing history.
- Saved Words: When you save words using the WordEase extension, the word and its definition are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage API (
chrome.storage.local). This data is not sent to our servers unless you explicitly export it as a CSV file, which is handled entirely on your device. - Word Lookups: When you look up a word, the extension sends the word to the Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) to fetch definitions and pronunciations. No personal data is included in these requests.
- Feedback (Optional): If you choose to share feedback via our feedback form, any information you provide (e.g., comments or contact details) is handled by a third-party service (Google Forms). We do not store this information unless you explicitly provide contact details for follow-up.
How We Use Your Information
- Saved Words: Stored locally in your browser to allow you to view, export, or delete your saved words within the WordEase popup. This data remains on your device and is not accessed by WordEase.
- Word Lookups: Used solely to retrieve definitions and pronunciations from the Dictionary API in real-time to display in the extension.
- Feedback: If you provide feedback, we may use it to improve WordEase. We do not store or process this data unless you include contact information for further communication.
Data Storage and Security
WordEase stores saved words and their definitions locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage API. This data is not transmitted to or stored on our servers. When you export words as a CSV file, the file is generated on your device and not sent to us. We do not collect or store any personal data, so no server-side security measures are required.
Third-Party Services
- Dictionary API: We use the Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) to fetch word definitions and pronunciations. Their privacy practices apply to the data sent during word lookups (i.e., the word itself, with no personal information).
- Google Forms (Optional): If you submit feedback via our Google Form, your submission is handled by Google’s servers. SeeGoogle’s Privacy Policyfor details. We do not store this data unless you provide contact information for follow-up.
